App of the Week: WinView Games

Over the weekend, an ad popped up for betting on a football game.  This ad was for a company called WinView Games.  It is an app that allows anybody over the age of 18 to place bets on many different sporting events in the US.  It allows users to be able to bet with fake points or use real money.

While sports gambling is still a controversial subject in the US, many other countries around the world have already adopted this idea.  Apps like these allow quick bets to be made, which may be harmful to those with an addictive personality or gambling issues.  Because it gambles with real money, you cannot find this app on the Google Play Store or Apple Marketplace.  Instead, you must go to their website and download it yourself.

While it has some setbacks, such as you can only gamble on one game at a time, it has many perks.  The first is the ability to earn money without spending a penny.  I gambled with points for a football in a global pool and ended up placing in the top 16, earning me $1.00.  While it may not be much, it’s more than I started with.

The live updating with bets is also very nice and fast.  They give the opportunity to make more bets to earn more and can keep you up to date if you aren’t actually watching the game.

Being able to connect through Facebook is a great feature, even though Facebook hasn’t had the best month.  While you might have to worry about security issues taking place, it makes it easy to invite friends and have your own league.

Be sure to check out WinView Games and give them a try. And Gamble Responsibly.

Songs Under The Radar: 10/12

Paul Kelly’s  And Death Shall Have No Domination is a very folk sounding song.  Great uplifting lyrics if you’re having a down day.  Also is very simplistic instruments that will bring you back in time.

Another one from Jess Glynne is on the Under the Radar.  Based on the singles she is putting out, it seems like it will do pretty well in sales. Check out her latest hit below.

Every once and awhile, fairly unknown rappers get a break.  Carmouflage Rose may finally have his time.  Not too many big artists put out music this week, so it allows smaller artists to reach more.  Give him a listen and see where he goes.

Cheat Codes released another semi-sad, semi-happy tune.  They know their audience well and are able to push out what fans want.  They have to be careful to not do what The Chainsmokers’ did with over saturation of similar sounding music.  For now, I’ll keep listening to their songs.

What I Know Now is a slower beat good for riding around town or just chilling at home.  Wiz Khalifa is also featured on this track, so it is almost always guaranteed to be a hit.  Listen to this when you’re in a deep thinking mood.

App of the Week: Tik Tok

What is Tik Tok?  Well since August 2018 it currently is the new name for the app formerly known as  The main purpose of this app is to pick a sound bite and record yourself lip syncing. It also allows you to do collaborations using other people’s videos.

Apps like these are trying to fill the void that Vine has left. It is a low skill requiring performance with the possibility of gaining a following. Because it is such a low entry cost, the app gets oversaturated with poorly done content.

While there are some good videos out there, there are so many bad one.  If you are wanting to cringe, download this app and see for yourself. So check out Tik Tok if you either want to create content or want to watch others to feel less bad about yourself.

Their marketing campaign is also kicking up more, so they plan to be in this for the long run. Check out the video below for a sample of what you’re missing

Fortnite’s V6.02 Patch Notes Brings New Mode

Each week, Epic Games puts out new patches to feed their gamers with new and exciting gameplay. Read the Battle Royale Notes below, courtesy of Epic Games:

Bust-a-move in the new Limited Time Mode in Battle Royale and clear waves of enemies with a returning weapon in Save the World.

Disco Domination (Battle Royale)

Quad Rocket Launcher (Battle Royale)
Fire rockets in quick succession towards enemies with this new weapon to earn an explosive Victory Royale!

Noble Launcher (Save the World)
Charge this powerful launcher to defeat crowds of enemies with a beam of piercing energy.

We addressed a disk performance issue on Xbox One which was causing buildings and cosmetics to load in slowly. This will also reduce load times.
Please note: This fix will result in a larger patch download than usual (around 10GB).

It’s time for the ultimate dance-off. Dance Floors have spawned around the Battle Royale island. Take them over by clearing out any enemies and then dancing to raise a disco ball up from the floor. The team that fills their meter the fastest by capturing and defending the dance floors will win the match!

Mode Details

Two teams battle it out!
Respawning will be turned on until the third (last) storm circle.
Five dance floors will appear on the map whenever the storm is not moving.
Emoting on a dance floor when no enemies are present will raise a disco ball in the center of the floor, and capture it for your team.
The more friendly players dancing on a floor, the faster it will be captured.
Once a floor is captured, it will begin filling the team’s “dance bar” on the HUD, until either an enemy stands on it or the current storm timer ends and the storm begins to move. The first team to fill their dance bar to 100% will win the match.
The dance floors in the later stages of the match fill the bar more quickly, so don’t give up if your team is behind!
It is not possible to build on or over the dance floors, but they can be protected by surrounding them with a fort.
Glider redeploy is activated in this mode, press jump while falling to use your glider.
This mode uses 50v50 levels of loot and resources.

Quad Launcher
Fire up to four lobbed rockets in quick succession.
Available in Epic and Legendary variants.
80/84 base damage per rocket.
300 unit explosion radius.
Can be found in chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines.

The Port-a-Fortress has returned and can be looted in-game.
Port-a-Fortress availability lowered from 2.43% to 1.83%.

Bug Fixes

Removed a change that was inadvertently introduced in v6.01 which caused Bonesy to bark more than was intended.
Fixed an issue that caused moving circles to be closer to the previous safe zone than intended.

Fixed some hitches on Switch caused by blocking loads of UI data.
Increased the texture pool size on Xbox One, which should avoid some issues with blurry textures and improve rendering performance.

Skull Trooper styles have a visual issue when viewing the Outfit from the Locker.
The Outfit still appears properly in-game.
This issue will be fixed next patch.

How To: Make A Profit Off Destroyed Art

Step 1) Become a world famous artist

Step 2) Sell work at auctions

Step 3) Destroy original, but leave enough of it intact so one can recognize what it was.

Step 4) Profit

That is what happened this past week with the secret artist, Banksy.  While his intentions may have been to show that you shouldn’t put a price on art, it may have backfired.  The piece, “Girl with a Balloon” sold at Southeby’s in London for $1.4 million and shortly after put through a shredder hidden in the frame.  Banksy later put out this video explaining how it happened.

While his purpose was to devalue the artwork, most art critics say instead he doubled the cost due to this phenomenon.  Watch the action unfold in the video below:

Hacks of the Month: October

When technology is introduced into our lives, people always try to test it to the breaking point and see what they can find. Although October isn’t even halfway over, we’ve already seen 3 major security issues. The companies of the month that had the flaws are Google, Facebook, and NewEgg.

See the source image

Let’s start with Google.  While Google was busy trying to compete in the social media business, they left some issues that nobody seemed to notice.  Because Google has such a wide grasp on products from phones and computers to their software products including YouTube and Gmail, most people had to create accounts somewhere in the google servers.

Because Google Plus never took off like they planned, most people ignored the platform.  While this security flaw didn’t contain any private financial information, it still exposed one’s age, occupation, place of residency, etc. Most of these things can be found in other places online, such as LinkedIn or YellowPages. People had an issue only because this has been there since 2015 and nobody knew until recently.

The bigger security flaw this month comes from Facebook. It is being referred to as the “View As” hack.  Initially, the purpose of this feature was to view your profile as another user, either generic or specific.  This was to promote safety and ensure that only the people you want to see your posts can.  What hackers discovered was when you view as a specific person, you gain access to their account token. An account token is specific per person and no two have the same one.

The token stores the account information to log in, including email and password.  By gaining access to the token, one can manipulate the URL and access other’s accounts without inputting those fields.  Luckily, Facebook has a separate place for financial information in which you have to verify passwords instead of tokens, so no financial information was gained by hackers.  Roughly 50 million accounts were logged out by Facebook and given new tokens, so that they won’t be hit again.

Lastly, the only security flaw that could hurt you financially comes from NewEgg.  Hackers got into their system and put in code that skimmed credit card information without alerting authorities.  NewEgg states that if you made purchases between August 14th and September 18th, you should check your bank account just in case.  No account information was gained, so password change isn’t needed.

And that wraps up this month’s hacks so far.

Video Game Releases (10/9-10/16)

With the season of big AAA title releases upon us, this week’s big one is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.  While the game no longer has single player, we will see how the community responds to this change.

Note: With AAA title launches, many smaller companies tend to not push their product for better sales. That is why the lists tend to be shorter during this timeframe.
