Over the weekend, many Netflix users were notified that Nintendo Wii streaming services would be ending January 31, 2019. Although Nintendo directly did not announce this, it falls in line with previous announcements they have made.
Last year, Nintendo announced the Wii Shop Channel would be closing on January 30th, 2019. Many anticipated that they would have to download all software they want before that date. Once the shop is closed for good, it appears one cannot redownload software, even if they own it. The announcement from Netflix appears that even apps won’t be supported anymore.
Nintendo has only recently received YouTube on the Switch and still doesn’t have Netflix. Nintendo has stated that they would like to have Netflix on the Switch before the end of 2018, but we will have to wait and see.
