Magnus Effect: What is it?

The Magnus Effect is an awesome thing to see in action.  The Dictionary defines it as “the force exerted on a rapidly spinning cylinder or sphere moving through air or another fluid in a direction at an angle to the axis of spin. This force is responsible for the swerving of balls when hit or thrown with spin”.

Often time it’s hard to see in the micro-scale with your bare eye.  Dropping large objects off of large structures is the best way to see it as demonstrated by this video.
