Songs Under The Radar: 11/2

Here are some of this week’s hidden tracks you should give a listen to:

First up, we have Miss Blanks’ “This Bitch”.  This song could have easily been featured in Vine videos, if it was still around. It’s a fun song to sing the chorus, but in no way should be repeated in a work/school/church environment.  Miss Blanks is an upcoming rapper doing shows with Nicki Minaj and Lil Pump, so maybe we’ll see more of her.

Next, we have a cover song from The Greatest Showman. Panic! At The Disco covers one of the major songs performed in the film and may have done it better than the original.  This cover could almost go with the “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” music video with the circus getup.  Brandon Urie was made to sing this song.

“Sweetheart” by Glades is this week’s mindless song.  The lyrics are easily forgotten, but the drop is pretty unique.  I can see this song getting possible remixes or even mashups taking the beat from it.

Tame Impala will be the big name to draw you into listening to this song.  The feature along side the tambourine hits will bring you into a relaxed feeling. It feels very Cali-Hawaiian. It’ll make you feel like you’re at the beach either way.

Last song for this week is “Baby” by Clean Bandit.  Clean Bandit is know for using string instruments in Dance genre music.  This one uses some acoustic guitar sounds that mixes with an Tango flavor.  Marina and The Diamonds have such a unique sound that hasn’t been heard in awhile and being paired up with Luis Fonsi works well with the beat.

Songs Under The Radar: 10/26

Every week, tons of songs are pushed to radio with some that aren’t good to listen to.  Here’s this week’s hidden gems.

“Arms Around You” features 3 living singers and 1 dead one.  XXXTENTACION is still being featured on tracks after his death by his friends.  Because this is rare in the music world, you probably will hear this on the radio at some point, and it still has Kevin Lyttle’s classic Turn Me On vibe to it.

Stand Atlantic is a band that is coming up quick.  It feels like every other week they are pushing out a new single.  Catchy chorus and punk rock vibe is a sound that is missed on radio these days.  Still waiting for a bad Stand Atlantic song.

When The Struts did a song with Kesha called “Body Talks”, I wasn’t the biggest fan of how it turned out.  This song, however, reminds me a lot of “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” by The Darkness.  Heavy drum chorus and high pitch verse endings are attractive for car rides.

While I have no idea what the 1% Kiiara is referring to, this song is pretty mellow for background noise.  A lot of sexual phrasings are thrown around and I haven’t check the exact lyrics, but I’m pretty sure this’ll never be played on the radio.

This is the second single that we’ve written about coming from Kings.  He’s a New Zealand born rapper.  Very rarely do we hear piano in rap songs, so hearing this song makes it feel kind of classy.  His Facebook only has 30k likes, but he is still on the rise.

And those are the Songs Under The Radar for this week!

Songs Under The Radar: 10/19

Here’s the songs that are good enough for the radio, but lack the funds for it:

Zara Larsson is a fairly known artist, but people forget her hits.  Most noteworthy is her appearances on red carpets and giving drug-influenced interviews.  Over the past couple years, she produced a few hits featuring uplifting beats with sadder lyrics.  This song is very similar to past work.

It seems that Major Lazer is dropping new singles every other week.  This one features Tove Lo and features a Jamaican beat behind her.  Between the beat, lyrics, and artwork for this single, it almost feels weird having Tove Lo sing this song.  It doesn’t have any crazy drops either and continues this new era of Major Lazer.

The 1975 live up to their band name with this 70’s sounding song.  The style reminds people of how music used to sound back in the days with use of certain instruments and vocal alterations.

The O’Jays are the relatively unknown band for this week.  The song is very political about the Trump administration.  But the minimalistic use of instruments makes it very nice to listen to while sitting in an office or living room setting.

Cher Lloyd is back making new music.  None Of My Business is a simple tune with mind-numbing lyrics, but Cher Lloyd is able to produce a consistent sound that makes her pleasant to listen to.  This probably won’t break any records, but it is easy listening.

Songs of the Week: 10/19

Here are the Top 10 Songs this week according to Spotify, take note that “Sunflower” is from the new Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse movie:

  1. Sunflower – Post Malone, Swae Lee
  2. when the party’s over – Billie Eilish
  3. Vertigo – Khalid
  4. Cry Alone – Lil Peep
  5. Ruin My Life – Zara Larsson
  6. Fine China – Future, Juice WRLD
  7. Kiss and Make Up – Dua Lipa, BLACKPINK
  8. Conversations with my Wife – Jon Bellion
  9. 3 Nights – Dominic Fike
  10. Mirror – IDER

Songs Under The Radar: 10/12

Paul Kelly’s  And Death Shall Have No Domination is a very folk sounding song.  Great uplifting lyrics if you’re having a down day.  Also is very simplistic instruments that will bring you back in time.

Another one from Jess Glynne is on the Under the Radar.  Based on the singles she is putting out, it seems like it will do pretty well in sales. Check out her latest hit below.

Every once and awhile, fairly unknown rappers get a break.  Carmouflage Rose may finally have his time.  Not too many big artists put out music this week, so it allows smaller artists to reach more.  Give him a listen and see where he goes.

Cheat Codes released another semi-sad, semi-happy tune.  They know their audience well and are able to push out what fans want.  They have to be careful to not do what The Chainsmokers’ did with over saturation of similar sounding music.  For now, I’ll keep listening to their songs.

What I Know Now is a slower beat good for riding around town or just chilling at home.  Wiz Khalifa is also featured on this track, so it is almost always guaranteed to be a hit.  Listen to this when you’re in a deep thinking mood.

Songs Under The Radar: 10/5

First up this week comes from Charli XCX and Troye Sivan. 1999 brings back sounds that we haven’t heard since the beginning of the millennium with Brittney Spears, TLC, etc.  Even the EP cover picture brings back old vibes.

Jonas Blue isn’t as big in the US as he ought to be. This new single has a catchy beat with good lyrics behind it. You’ll recognize Liam Payne formerly a part of the band, One Direction.

Next up this week is a band called Stand Atlantic.  This band has a very Paramore-ish punk-rock sound to them.  This sound could bring them to the top of the scene.  But be warned, their album cover is sort of NSFW.

In My Mind Part 3 is now out.  Who knew there was a part 2 to this song? Anyways, Flo Rida is back and he never disappoints with his songs. So check this out and keep his name relevant even though he never gets much radio time anymore.

Last up for this week is a group I’ve never heard about until today.  Kings put out this EP today and it is ear-catching.  Maybe this group will be upcoming in the rap scene or they might be a one-hit wonder.  Only time will tell.

Let us know if we missed any new song that you feel in underappreciated.
