Songs Under The Radar: 12/14

Finally a week with so much good music, it’s hard to narrow it down to a Top 5 list. Check out below some songs you need to listen to this week:

Quinn XCII and Noah Kahan are back singing the uplifting blues. “Tough” has very good lyrics that makes you think in ways you might not have before. Crying into muscle tissue is something that seems so obvious, but I never have thought of it before. Very casual song to listen to while in deep thoughts.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has a fire album. This one is called “Home” by Vince Staples and Richie Kohan. Very tropical and funky beat with it. Some of the audio effects are ones not used often. It’s nice to see the experimentation going on in this song.

Another one coming from the new Spider-Man movie. This one is Called “Scared of the Dark” and features Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla $ign and XXXTENTACION. It starts off a little slow, but builds momentum with the verses. Probably a better single than most of Lil Wayne’s recent album.

T-Pain is back making club bangers. This time it’s called “That’s Yo Money”. Similar vibe to Cardi B’s message of take what’s yours. The bass alone will destroy some speakers though.

Lastly we have “Placebo” by Devin Dawson. It has a nice country-pop sound to it giving the same talk about love might just be a placebo. It’s not overpowering with the amount of intruments used in it either. Devin Dawson is an upcoming artist who used to cover Taylor Swift on YouTube.

Ariana Grande is back in the top 10 with her new song imagine. The new Spider-Man movie must have a great soundtrack as well if multiple singles are reaching the top 10 weekly.

Here are this week’s top 10 new releases according to Spotify:

  1. Familia (with Anuel AA, feat. Bantu) – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – Nicki Minaj
  2. imagine – Ariana Grande
  3. There You Are – ZAYN
  4. MoshPit (feat. Juice WRLD) – Kodak Black
  5. Solo de Mi – Bad Bunny
  6. Hope – The Chainsmokers, Winona Oak
  7. You Remind Me (feat. Stanaj) – Gryffin
  8. Startender (feat. Offset and Tyga) – A Boogie Wit da Hoodie
  9. The Mask – Matt Maeson
  10. Happy Xmas (War Is Over)(feat. Sean Ono Lennon) – Miley Cyrus, Mark Ronson

Back again with another look at songs that deserve some plays. Each week many songs are tossed to the side due to lyrics or that they didn’t pay the radio stations enough to promote them.  Either way check out some of the following new songs.

“Hey Julie!” reunites a pair of rappers that we loved with “iSpy”. KYLE and Lil Yachty are back with this song. I’m still undecided if it is better than the previous one, but it is still a worthy contender. The lyrics are also pretty clean, so you may see this hit airwaves at some point.

RØMANS just made a new song for the bedroom. It has a very Marvin Gaye vibe to it with slow bpm and high pitch vocals throughout. Lyrically it is very sexual in nature as well. Now you can spice up your bedroom playlist with “Animals”

If you need a nice background song for any event, “Off Limits” is the song for you. It is a nice song to just mellow out with with no beat drops in it. Such a very smooth sound from BAYNK and Glades.

Let your inner anime come out with “GOKU”. Jaden Smith dropped this banger randomly along with a music video that provides us with a lot of Dragon Ball Z images. This is probably his best work yet and is looking like he is more serious about his rap career now.

OMI is back with a collab with CMC$. Once again he hits us with a love song, but this time it is less tropical and has more of a traditional Africaan tone to it. I can see a remixed version of this getting popular if it happens.

Songs of the Week: 12/7

XXXTENTACION is once again back with another hit after his death. It’s amazing how much he recorded before his death. Here are this week’s Top 10 new songs according to Spotify:

  1. Roses (with Juice WRLD feat. Brendon Urie) – benny blanco
  2. Project Dreams – Marshmello, Roddy Ricch
  3. whoa (mind in awe) – XXXTENTACION
  4. Grip – Seeb, Bastille
  5. REASONS – Cautious Clay
  6. Flight To Memphis (feat. Chris Brown, Juicy J & A$AP Rocky) – Smooky MarGielaa
  7. Spray (feat. Tyga & YG) – Sneakk
  8. Let You Know – Sody
  9. Shelter – Broken Bells
  10. Just a Little Longer – SHY Martin

Songs Under The Radar: 11/30

Every week tons of music gets sifted through to find the next big hits. Here’s a sample of what you may hear on the radio in the next few months:

First up this week is “Feeling of Falling” by Cheat Codes and Kim Petras. These two artist have very similar sounds that they like to use. This song follows pattern and is good to see the two of them collab on a song like this.

“Bye Bye” by Gryffin features vocals from a relatively new artist named Ivy Adara. It’s not uncommon for random females to sing vocals on an EDM track. We will see if this is a one track deal or if things will build.

Kwame is not to be confused with the old American rapper from the 80’s. He is a new upcoming rapper in 2018 and he’s not American which makes his market appeal harder. His lyrics in “CLOUDS.” flow smoothly throughout. Give him a listen and try to find the current Kwame.

“Call You” by Cash Cash reminds me a little of “Call on Me” by Eric Prydz. Similar sounds and title names probably isn’t a coincidence. The previous song was looped constantly for hours and maybe this one will be too.

Hilltop Hoods is back bringing old sounding rap into 2018. “Leave Me Lonely” is a rap song where there is an accent, but is still understandable if you try to rap it in front of your friends. Plus they aren’t well known in America, so you can show off as well.

Songs of the Week: 11/30

Here are the Top 10 songs according to Spotify this week:

  1. Going Bad (feat. Drake) – Meek Mill
  2. KIKA (feat. Tory Lanez) – 6ix9ine
  3. Better To Lie (with Jesse & Swae Lee) – benny blanco
  4. I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) – The 1975
  5. Nothing Breaks Like a Heart (feat. Miley Cyrus) – Mark Ronson
  6. My Own Thing – Chance the Rapper, Joey Purp
  7. We Appreciate Power – Grimes, HANA
  8. E-Lo (feat. Jozzy) – Los Unidades, Pharrell Williams
  9. TIC TOC (feat. Lil Baby) – 6ix9ine
  10. On Me (feat. Cardi B) – Meek Mill

Songs Under The Radar: 11/16

Here’s some songs that are deserving more play time this week.

“I’m Yours” by Mashd N Kutcher is a song that deserves more attention. The Chainsmokers put out a new song that is alright, but looking from the wide view, both artists are very similar from their origins. Mashd N Kutcher don’t put out new music every other month, but they make quality over quantity.

“Follow My Girl” is a song by a band I’ve never heard of called The Japanese House. The words feel blended in with the beat, which makes it a good song to zone out to. Probably will see them touring some indie festivals in the future.

This next song is a little bit of a mess, but Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is too great of a band name to ignore. The title, “My Friend’s A Liquid”, adds to the weirdness of the band. Have your friends listen to this so you get the pleasure of telling them the name of the band.

This song I’m surprised didn’t make the top 10 songs this week. “Lights On” gives the people the beginning of the new Christmas music. It was inspired by the Grinch, but has Tyler, The Creator on it with Santigold and Ryan Beatty. I know it’s before Thanksgiving, but give it a chance.

Lastly, another song by a big band that somehow got missed this week. Mumford & Sons have given us this new single and the people have underestimated it. I expect to hear this on radio in the near future though.

Songs of the Week: 11/16

Check out the Top 10 songs this week according to Spotify:

  1. Beach House – The Chainsmokers
  2. 6 Summers – Anderson .Paak
  3. Twerk (feat. Cardi B) – City Girls
  4. The Mantra (with Pharrell & Kendrick Lamar) – Mike WiLL Made-It
  5. Waves (feat. 6LACK) – Normani
  6. Velvet Rope – Rita Ora
  8. Spiral (feat. WYNNE) – AUGUST 08
  9. Take One – Kodak Black
  10. La Di Da – Lennon Stella

Songs Under The Radar: 11/9

Don’t let the radio dictate your music taste. Here’s some fresh tunes you won’t hear.

Twerk by City Girls is one of those songs that you just put on and feel a lot cooler than you are. It’s a shorter song compared to most, but for two and a half minutes you feel like you’re back in high school doing stuff you shouldn’t.

Allan Kingdom and TyBass are two upcoming rappers and their song “Today” talks about all the struggles they overcame. They also put out a flashy music video with lyrics, so you can sing along and don’t have to look up RapGenius.

One thing Jonas Blue does real well is finding fresh new talent. His new song “Desperate” adds vocals from Nina Nesbitt. Because of the collab, both artists profit much more. For as much as Jonas Blue brings, he still isn’t widely known in America though.

Steve Aoki is another DJ that does some collabs with artists. While Aoki tends to use bigger names, they often are bands that aren’t normally associated with his brand. This time he’s brought in the new blink-182 to assist. I’m still not sure if this works, but the attempt makes it worth it.

Last up this week comes from Matoma. He’s bringing his tropical sounds and incorporating them with Josie Dunne’s church vibe in “Sunday Morning”. This song is great to wake up to in the morning, but would also turn a church into a club real quick.
